The Master’s program in History is 120 ECTS credits in total including the time spent in classes (contact hours) and doing practical works, the amount of time students need for self-study as well as the all the examinations. Each of the four semesters is worth 30 ECTS credits

The principle of the Master’s program in History is based on the combination of three interrelated sub-programs that is foundation program, specialization program and practice program. Foundation program is comprised of 48 ECTS credits; specialization program of 48 ECTS credits and practice program of 24 ECTS credits respectively.

The foundation program gives students an overview of the recent developments in historiography and the debate on methods in history. Additionally students shall learn pedagogy and psychology of higher education, principles of management, English and a second foreign language (German or Polish). These competences will enable them to make further progress in various fields of activity.

The practice program corresponds to the practical and professional goals of the study and shapes skills how to apply acquired knowledge.

Central Europe through history: from multinational monarchies to the V4 cooperation is one of the four research-oriented specialization programs which are proposed by the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv to complete the Master’s program in History. It gives students the opportunity to acquire advanced knowledge and expertise in the recent past of Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia as well as to consolidate the competences acquired in the foundation and practice programs by carrying out independent research work with the result of the Master’s thesis.
