Participants will include graduates of the courses “Comparative Political Science: Political Institutions and Systems of Western European Countries” (bachelor’s students in Political Science) and “Comparative Analysis of Political Institutions and Systems of Central and Eastern European Countries” (master’s students in Political Science), representatives of the student society “Polis” and the public organization “Center for Political Studies. Lviv”, as well as prospective students of these courses, among others. The alumni discussions are organized within the framework of the Erasmus+ Programme under the Jean Monnet Actions for Higher Education (module “Political Institutions and Systems in Europe: Comparison and Experience for Ukraine”, No. 101126702).

The first thematic block of the alumni discussions will focus on reviewing the features, outcomes, and future prospects of the educational process and the mentioned academic courses concerning the European Union and political institutions and systems in Western and Central-Eastern Europe. Effectively, these discussions will serve as a concluding meeting and a feedback channel between instructors and students, allowing for a summary of the achievements and results from the first year of implementing the two academic courses and setting directions for the future.

In the second thematic block, participants will have the opportunity to discuss various options and prospects for further development of the political system and political institutions in Ukraine, taking into account both the advanced and positive as well as potentially negative and critical experiences of Western and Central-Eastern European countries that are already members of the European Union. This is particularly relevant in the context of Ukraine’s European integration progress and the anticipation of further democratization, development, and reform of political institutions in our country.

Following the alumni discussions “Political Institutions and Systems Matter,” recommendations will be developed regarding the further development of the mentioned academic courses and understanding the possibilities of utilizing European political and institutional experience in Ukraine.

The alumni discussions “Political Institutions and Systems Matter” will be held on May 27, 2025, in Room 301 and will begin at 3:00 PM.

The event is organized by the Department of Political Science, the Center for Political Studies, and the student society “Polis” with financial support from the European Union under the Erasmus+ Programme, Jean Monnet Actions for Higher Education (module “Political Institutions and Systems in Europe: Comparison and Experience for Ukraine”, No. 101126702).
